    DX9?

I'm new to all this DirectX, so forgiive me if this question is dumb.

What new functionality is in DX9 that isn't addressed in these tools? Will there be a version for DX9?

Also, I don't even have a compiler yet. I've use BCB before, but I've lost my disks. I like BCB for sure, but books I've glanced at about games programming commonly refer to Visual C++ 6 as superior for games programming (my long term goal). But I've tried VC and it's a pain in the ass (why they call it visual is beyond me). At any rate, I'm confused. Which compiler is better? I like the convenience and straightforwardness of BCB, but these game books have CDs with source and .mak files (or equivalent) for Visual C++. I'm at odds here. What should I do? Should I focus on BCB or Visual C? Will BCB really do the job when it comes to complete games programming?

ON another note, I've downloaded many of the examples here, and I'm truly impreesed. The .exes are small and fast! And though I can only look at the sample source, I can see that it is extremely tight, and easy to comprehend (unlike VC code). Damn good job on this -- the tools and the demos. These tools rock!
