Attach is a term used for the connection of surfaces in a logical manner. There are two basic purposes for attaching surfaces, the first being to add additional information to the surface. An example of this could be attaching an alpha or z-buffer surface to a conventional surface to provide transparency or depth information. The second is for the purpose of forming a flip chain, which is then used to cycle through the attached series of surfaces.
